Draugr - one of the worst monsters of Scandinavian mythology. The first legends about him originated in Iceland, its name derived from the its language. In the translation of Old Norse, draugr means ghosting. Draugr is the ghost of a man who died a violent death. Draugr looked different - depending on how he died. Terrible wounds were bleeding from those killed on the battlefield, and water was dripping from the drowned. People believed that the dead leave graves every night and roam the villages to frighten people. The fear of them was so great that people wore special amulets for protection and put magic symbols on the graves so that the dead would not rise and not become a draugr.
