"Happy is the country that has no history" - what does that mean? That proverb seems difficult to understand but it is actually not so hard.

Today in history textbooks anyone can read that many countries had such terrible and violent events as war and civil war, famine, slavery that took lives of hundreds of thousands of people. A country in which there were no such cruel happenings can actually consider itself to be happy, since it did not have to experience all this horror.
