The death penalty is a subject of many debates nowadays. This type of punishment has as large number of strong supporters as well as numerous strong opponents.

The main argument being put forward by supporters of the death penalty is justice. The majority of serious and especially serious crimes are connected with attempted murder or murder. In such cases the supporters of "the highest measure" refuse to think about the right to life for the criminal and they state that the rights of the victim should be the primary concern.

Opponents of the "highest measure" usually pay attention to its irreversibility. They say that this punishment excludes the possibility for man to repent and change, or the justice system to correct its mistake and change the wrong verdict. There are also some other arguments, such as the Christian principle of "do not kill" or the call to the state to set an example of forgiveness and mercy.

But nevertheless the death penalty for serious crimes is quite common in the world at present.
