When I left college I went on with my studies and became a doctor. I always wanted to travel. I became a doctor on a ship sailing both to the east and to the west indies. On May 4, 1699, I siled from Bristol for the south seas as a doctor of a ship named the Antelope. At first, everything went well but then there was a great storm. The ship came very close to the rocks and crashed into them. Some of the sailors and Igot a boat into the water. It was a small boat. When a big wave hit it, we all fell into the sea. I was swimming for a very long time and got very tired. I felt that I could not swim any longer. But the shore was not far away and soon my feet touched the ground. I walked oul of the sea to a beach - there wery no houses, there were no people. I was so tired that I lay down and fell asleep.

Я родился в Англии. Когда мне было лет всего четырнадцать лет, мой отец отправил меня в Кембридж изучать медицину. Я учился там три года. После окончания колледжа я продолжил учёбу и стал врачом. Я всегда хотел путешествовать. Я стал врачом на корабле, плывущем на восток и в западную Индию. 4 мая 1699 года я отплыл из Бристоля в южные моря в качестве врача на корабле "антилопа". Сначала все шло хорошо, но потом разразидась буря. Корабль подошёл слишком близко к скалам и разбился об них. Некоторые матросы и я спустили лодку в воду. Это была маленькая лодка. Когда большая волна ударила в неё, мы все упали в море. Я плыл очень долго и сильно устал. Я чувствовал, что я не могу плыть ни минуты больше. Но берег был недалеко, и вскоре мои ноги коснулись земли. Я вышел из моря на пляж - там не было ни домов, ни людей. Я так устал, что лёг и заснул.
