1. Tolstoy, Turgenev, Dostoevskij are the best known Russian writers. 2. I know "Anna Karenina", "War and Peace", these are the most popular novels by Tolstoy. 3. "War and Peace" is about the events of French occupation of Russia in 1812. 4. "Fathers and Sons" is a famous novel by Turgenev. 5. Greek author Lucian of Samosata is often considered to be one of the earliest novelists of Western civilisation. In Russian literature, Nikolaj Gogol is the earliest novelist.
