Jane finishes at six every day, but today she is working late.

We used the first verb in Present Simple to denote a regular, habitual action which takes place every day. The second verb we used in Present Continuous to denote an action which is going on at the moment of speaking, today. Other similar examples of opposition Present Simple/Present Continuous: Usually I go to school on foot, but today I'm late, so I'm going by bus.
