Now there are trains that can travel at over 300 km an hour. The Japanese name for these trains is Shinkansen, but in English they are often called 'bullet trains' because of their speed and shape. High-speed trains were not introduced in Europe until the 1980s but now many countries have them. Today, these fast trains are used by more and more people and they are much better for the environment than planes.
